No - I specifically get a non-clay litter after my cat developed asthma because most (not all, but most) clumping clay litters do contain bentonite.

I have used several "green" clumping litters and have found that Swheat clumps the best and my cats seem to like it better than the pine, corn or newspaper pellets.

You can look into a few products that may help remedy the problem, it all depends on your preference:

Clevercat Top Entry litter box (SKU: 426822)
PETCO Mega Rectangular Litter Box (SKU: 1181807)
SmartCat Ultimate Cat Litter Box (SKU: 1172930)

Or you could look into a hooded box, just be aware that not every cat will take to one. Good luck!

When we started looking for a self cleaning litter box, we did A LOT of research and read A LOT of reviews. We weren't convinced that Littermaid was the way to go, people seemed so dissatisfied with them. We found the SmartScoop litter box, and the more we read about it, the more we liked it.

We bought it 6 months ago, and we've never looked back. The cat transitioned to it pretty easily. We haven't had any issues with it (knock wood). You can also check out the SmartScoop website to read more information and watch video of it in action. We've been very happy with the purchase. People will have varying opinions. I'm sure other people will recommend products that they have purchased and had a positive experience with. Do yourself a favor, gather information and read reviews, that will most certainly help you to reach your final decision. Good luck!

Question

what is the best cat litter for allergic cats?

My cat has skin allergies that require shots every 2-3 mo. I have been using clumping litter, but the vet suggested switching to clay. Does anyone have experience with this?

I can't say that I'm familiar with your dilemma, however, you definitely have a few options with clay littters:

Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Scoopable
Tidy Cats Scoop Small Spaces
Tidy Cats Scoop Immediate Odor Control
Tidy Cats Scoop Long Lasting Odor Control
Fresh Step Premium Clay litter

We tried Tidy Cats and thought it was wonderful, however, we switched to Dr. Elsey's once we upgraded to a mechanical litter box. Take a closer look at those products and see which will work best with your cat's needs. Good luck!

Question

i have always had litter box issues with my 5 yr old male cat. can he be retrained or is it too late?

we found him when he was only about a month old and i think i made mistakes while attempting to litter box train him. he will use his box but sporatically. i'm thinking the issue is the box has to be scooped after every usage. i've looked into getting an automatic box, but i'm leaning against it because of the cost and some of the reviews i've read. there are "hot" spots in my house that he will use to relieve himself, making my house stink. can he be retrained or is it a lost cause? my husband says that when we move into a new house the cat is going to a shelter, even though we both love the cat. HELP!

Oh the poor guy! Sometimes it can be as simple as the litter itself that deters the cat from the litterbox. My first course of action would be to try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Scoopable litter (SKU: 820865). People who have had similar issues with their cats swear by it.

As far as the "hot" spots go, make sure you're cleaning the spots with the right products. Diluting hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, and baking soda and spraying it on the stains SHOULD eradicate them, as well as the smell.

I would also try cleaning products like:

Dumb Cat Anti-Marking & Cat Spray Remover (SKU: 968153)
Fresh 'N Clean Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator (SKU: 616915)
Lambert Kay Fresh 'n Clean Odor & Stain Eliminator For Cats (SKU: 1083066)

I really hope things work out. Please don't give up on your cat. Try the above suggestions and you'll see that there will be positive changes in him. Good luck!!!

I would definitely look into a litter box that has low sides. Read the reviews, they will be VERY helpful to you. Some great options would be:

Fresh Kitty Frosted Litter Pan (SKU: 689165)
PETCO Scented Cat Litter Pans (SKU: 966240)

Good luck!

The only clumping litters that you'll be able to flush down the toilet are the ones that are made of natural, biodegradable materials.

The only thing to be aware of is, some people love those types of litters, while others think they're horrible. You can look into the following:

World's Best Cat Litter Original Formula (SKU: 860409)
World's Best Cat Litter Extra Strength MultiCat Formula (SKU: 943916)
Nature's Miracle Odor Control Clumping Cat Litter (SKU: 928267)
Swheat Scoop Natural Wheat Scoopable Cat Litter (SKU: 600814)
Swheat Scoop Scoopable Cat Litter Multi-Cat Strength (SKU: 1278606)

Good luck!
