Questions & Answers for Blue Buffalo Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice Adult Dog Food

Question

Will it help with gas?

So i use to feed my dog Purina that was until I found out how bad it is by reading the ingredients , i started feeding him Blue Buffalo Chicken & Brown Rice, wow did i see an improvement in his coat its a lot more shiny softer just great , but one issue ahh man he has really bad gas ! So a vet told me maybe is the source of protein might be hard for him to digest , So i thought of switching to Lamb & Brown Rice would help since a vet suggested. Any one know if it would help with gas? oh and btw he's a german shepherd/lab mix who turned 3 years old today :)

I think the lamb and brown rice food helped my dog resolve his gas and stomach distress. I used to always buy chicken based food but realized that after feeding him chicken scraps and paying for it the next morning, I needed to make a change. What a difference!

I switched from Nutro Ultra chicken to Blue Lamb because the groomer said she thought my dog might be allergic because he had A LOT of bacteria in his ears. Once I switched I noticed a huge change in his ears. He does have gas, it's sometimes awful, I don't know if he is sensitive to the food, I didn't notice a problem with gas on Nutro but he might have been too young? I switched at 4mts. I give him blue dog treats. (Miniature Schnauzer, 7mts)

Lamb and rice is "gas free" for my 3 Labradors but they love the duck which sets of the gas. Sometimes I can tell the gas bothers them and sometimes I think they have loved their " Blue" and watch out humans! My vet has always recommended gas ex for bad cases and noticeable tummy pain. As far as with the food we are good with Lamb! Check with your vet on gas ex I am not one, just a dog parent. Oh and with "Blue" there are so many kinds just find what your dog and his tummy like.

My dog is sensitive to chicken and will get diarrhea when she eats it, so I feed her the Lamb food too. My dog is also a Shepard/Lab mix along with pit and chow.

Its possible the dog is sensitive and gets gas instead of much worse things.

Good luck! The lamb is a little bit more expensive, but its worth it to keep them healthy.

I'd definitely try switching the proteins--our dog doesn't do well with any food that's chicken-based, which is why Blue Buffalo is so good. She's done very well on the lamb and the fish.

I have read that some dogs get gasy on Lamb, it was mostly bulldogs. My dog has had no gas on the Lamb. They do have a Turkey and a Venision. They all seem like great flavors. My dog has allergies with Chicken and has done great on the food so far and she's almost through a bag.

The package has a chart for the adult weight your dog will be and the corresponding recommendation for food. Adult dogs on Blue eat twice a day.

It depends on how much exercise your dog gets. Feed them more if they are very active... less if they lay around the house all day. Check with your vet for a guideline of what amount to start off with and keep a close eye on the dog's weight to see if you need to adjust the amount you are feeding them .

I have a 1 1/2 Year old part Lab and part Boxer. He is very playful and not mean about his food. I feed him 2 cups of lamb and brown rice in the AM and 1 cup dry and about 1/2 cup beef or chicken canned food in the PM for dinner. Also, a small snack before her beds down for the night. He has a yard to run around in and I play some ball with him each day.
He stays at about 70 lbs and my vet says he is about right. He loves his Blue Buffalo food = wet or dry..

You should be able to switch your dog to any flavor right away if it's the same brand Blue Buffalo. Can foods can be given any time from anyone from what I've been told. Just make sure it's a good quality canned food.

Of course. You should be fine, especially since you're switching in-brand, but if you're still worried about GI upset, you can always slowly transition from one food to the next over the course of about a week or two by slowly adding in more new and subtracting old food.

I've read that rotational feeding between flavors or even brands can be beneficial to dogs to prevent any nutritional deficiencies that can build up over time when you only feed one food for your dog's entire life.

Question

What Blue Buffalo adult large breed dry dog food would be best for food allergies?

We are currently using Purina H/A for our dog that has had chronic ear infections. She has lost weight and does not look as healthy as she once did, and we have to add things to the food for her (eggs, string beans) per our vet's instructions.

Chicken is usually the first thing to remove when their is allergies, second would be any grains. Try the turkey and potato, mine love that, the lamb in rice is good and they do make grain free products. They are a little more expensive and less to a bag (24lbs) but worth the expense to keep the fur kid healthy and not needing to go to the vet. Eggs could be another allergic trigger. Blue products are the best, I won't switch to anything else. I even got my grand fur babies on their food and their coats are so healthy and they love the flavors. They have enough varieties you can try too, just first avoid chicken. Also tea tree oil ear wash is really good for their ears. I have a black lab that has ear problems, I started using this once a week and he is doing great, even Doctor J was impressed with his ears.

I'd go with a grain free food. Sounds like your dog has allergies, which is likely due to the grain content in your food. I believe Blue recently introduced a grain free line...

Question

Blue Buffalo Small Breed Lamb & Brown Rice VS regular Lamb & Brown Rice

My question is basically the same as one posted already, but I'm wondering if the morsel size is larger in the NON-small breed version. My dog prefers the smaller bites, but I would rather buy the larger 30 lb bags that are not offered in the small breed formula (quite disappointing, Blue Buffalo). I don't think the formula for the non-small breed food would be all that different, but the size of the morsels of food is my concern. Plus, the big dogs eat her food so it would be nice to buy one 30 lb bag for all our dogs instead of buying two different bags and having them run out at different times. Thanks!

The morsels are not big at all. I have not bought the smaller breed bags since I have two medium size dogs but I really think a small dog would not have a problem eating these. I as also worried because my old dog loves this food but she has no problem eating these morsels.:-)

I buy for the large breed and the morsels as small around 1/4" of an inch so I would think the larger bags would be fine. My grand fur babies are totally different, one is a husky and the other is barely 8 lbs mix. They both eat the same food. I buy the big bag for them 30 lbs of the regular not size specific and they both love it.

Question

Can I mix it up and change the flavors?

I am currently looking to switch my dogs food from a brand I can only get online, sadly, to Blue and she is a finicky dog and gets bored of flavors very easily and with her current one I can switch from salmon, chicken and venison without having to slowly mix to change it and I was wondering if I can switch the flavors between the life protection formula or will she get sick?
