This fountain appears to be intended for both indoor and outdoor use. Please be aware that it comes with a power cord attachment that must be plugged into an electrical outlet in order for the fountain to run; this could limit your outdoor options slightly.

The cord uses a 5mm socket that goes into a plug-in AC Adapter (included). This setup would not be waterproof. But the fountain could certainly be outside so if you can protect the plug from the elements it should be fine.

I had this happen to me. I ended up washing everything and then running the motor in a Water + White Vinegar mix for about a half hour. (I did not open up the motor and take it apart.) This cleaned out the motor and it was like new again. Now I periodically do this to maintain the cleanliness of the motor.

The motor requires cleaning in addition to the unit itself. If you don't clean the motor you void the warranty. The motor comes apart (see directions) and you can use a q-tip to get into the small places. If you've never cleaned it you'll be surprised how much gook comes out. Once cleaned, the unit should work like new.

It does not remove bacteria but the constant aeration from the moving water is supposed to help cut down on bacteria growth. It requires cleaning once a week, but can be washed in the dishwasher. I have two cats and the water reservoir lasts about a week.

There is a screen that prevents hair and stray particles from getting near the pump. It's that little plastic thing that fits over the opening between the front and rear sections of the bowl. There is also a carbon filter in the compartment that the water spills from, and that should trap particles and remove odors and even chemicals from the water.

I recommend rinsing the whole thing every day or every couple days. Unplug it, take it to the sink, clean the screen each time and change the carbon insert as recommended. It is very very easy to clean and maintain.

Question

extra reservoir

With this deluxe fountain can I buy the large reservoir tank? I can't see where it says you can with this model. Also what happens to the fountain during a power outage? Does it flood or does the water stay contained? I live in earthquake California. Anybody know how these fountains ride out in a earthquake?

I can't answer all your questions, but there is no issue with leakage or flooding should you experience a power outtage. The pump simply stops and then resumes when power is restored. The fountain works exactly like your water cooler at work. When the level of water in the pan drops to a critical point, water from the reserve tank will refill it, and then stop when the proper water level is restored. No worries.

The water storage that comes with it is all you can have, so no you can not buy an extra reservoir tank. In a power outage the water stays contained, it only floods when the pump gets clogged with hair. I imagine it would probably spill over in an earthquake, the sides are not that tall.

I don't see why not. Mine is left on 24/7. The only mishap is when my cats slide into a nearby door mat and knock it into the drinkwell fountain where it soaks up lots of water and the thing is at risk of running dry and burning out the pump. But your cat sitter should be willing to top this off and, considering what they charge, be willing to clean and refill it, too.

To me, this is a great product and keeps the water filtered and fresh. I say leave it on.

My guess is that the plastic screen that covers the opening between the front and rear sections of the bowl has become clogged with dust or pet hair. Remove that "screen", clean it and put it back in place. That should solve the overflow problem.

I looked on the packaging and there are at least three numbers that may be the product number for this filter cartridge. They are about 3"x6" in size and they are clearly labeled "Drinkwell".

above the bar code the number is pac00-13067
below the barcode the number is 40840Q

below that are the words "made in china" and the number re 407-211.

Hope that helps.

The line input voltage should be shown on the wall transformer data on the unit. If it lists 120v AC 60Hz then the only thing you can do is buy a universal 220v AC 50Hz transformer that puts out 12v AC 200mA or buy a transformer that converts 220v to 110v.

Well on my instructions it says 4-8 weeks per filter, but it depends on how many cats are using it. Me personally I have two cats and they like to also play with the water so I change the water every week and clean the whole machine and rinse the filter. I change the filter every month, but you may be able to do it every month and a half.

I have the drinkwell premium pet fountain and filters by the way.

Hope this helped.
