Questions & Answers for Blue Buffalo Blue Buffalo Indoor Health Chicken & Brown Rice Adult Cat Food

Question

LIFE SOURCE BITS

Has anyone experienced their cat not eating / liking the Life Source Bits? My cats eat the regular kibble and leave the Life Source Bits behind. I'm just wondering if anyone else notices their cats doing this.

I would say to try adding a bit of warm water to the food. They claim this will help release the flavors and aromas. It may help your cats not pick around it so much. As for the review below that "hasn't heard good things and will never use Blue again", Blue Buffalo is a great product that works for many, many cats and their owners, its a healthy food and uses quality ingredients. It sounds to me like that particular person has some picky cats if they will only eat one variety of Merricks. My cats have really enjoyed the switch to Blue and also seem to enjoy the both the dry options and the wet (I use the Healthy Gourmet varieties of wet, and the Indoor Health Chicken & Brown Rice Dry w/ Life Source).

I have 5 cats and they will eat nothing but Blue. They do pick around the bits, but eventually it all gets eaten up.

Hi, I actually tried this bag out myself and my cats too do not like the Life Source Bits (even the STRAY I adopted hates it LOL, she just eats around it). It actually caused an allergic reaction to one of my kittys. She vomited and had diarrhea within a few days of switching to this brand and cried often (as if to tell me she was suffering!!!). I will never go back to this brand (something about the ingredients, not many cats are fond of from the reviews I have researched). If you're interested in a grain-free diet, I would recommend Merrick Before Grain in SALMON. I have tried the other flavors such as Tuna and Chicken, they throw it right back up! But Salmon they love, it's quite affordable, cute packaging and most importantly, my cats LOVE it! I've passed this on to all my cat parent friends. Good luck! =)

Blue Buffalo does have this. It is their selection of food called "Freedom". It is free from all grains. Blue "Wilderness" is another option.

Personally my 4 cats do wonderful on this food. They are healthy and look wonderful. I recently took my kitty in to have some tests done and the dr. told me her blood work was incrediable. To me that would fit the "completely balanced"/"nutrionally complete" status.

Although I am not sure of the exact breakdown of protein/carbs, I know that most Blue Buffalo dry foods have a higher percentage of proteins and less carbs than most BIG NAME, CHEAP NATIONAL BRANDS. They also have far less fillers and meals (ground up proteins that may include yucky parts of animals that they are required to report) than the cheapies. I feel very confident giving my 2 boys almost any Blue Buffalo dry food. I know that the wilderness formats are higher in proteins and fats that some of their other dry options. I feed one feeding dry (morning) and one feeding wet (night) using only Blue Buffalo products and I have seem a positive change in my kitties.

They have 15 lb. bags at the stores. Last time I bought them (I have 5 cats to I buy the big bags) I think they were around $33 each. I'm seeing online that they are about $35 and free shipping. In store I could use coupons though if I had them.

For me it is cheaper to purchase on-line as I live about an hours drive from the nearest Petco. I also purchase two bags at a time to save the shipping charges.

You should go with your veterinarian's recommendation to keep your cat as healthy as possible. First, contact your local shelter, rescue group or humane society. Many of these groups have programs that distribute free cat food and dog food to those in need. The best place for your cats and dogs is with you, so they will do what they can to help you keep your pets.

We switched to blue buffalo duck for our diabetic cat. Six years later we dropped the protein level by switching to the chicken mixes. He is still with us. I understand about expensive, but IMHO the healthiest (best) brands keep the vet bills down. They eat less and get the nutrition they need without grains and fillers. Most grains are bad for diabetic cats.

All cats shed. The best way to manage it is by brushing your cat regularly. If the cat is shedding to the point where he or she is getting bald spots, it needs to be seen by a veterinarian to determine the cause. If your cat has allergies or fleas, they will lick/dig to the point where severe fur loss occurs. The same with ear mites in the area around the ears neck and face. Normal shedding though is just part of owning a cat. We have a long haired white cat, in good health, but we have to brush her constantly, not only to prevent long white fur all over the house but to prevent her fur from knotting, especially in the spring when the shedding begins in earnest.

I don't know of anything you can feed a cat to prevent or even reduce shedding. The closest you'd find would be food that helps prevent hairballs. While you can't prevent shedding, you can minimize the flying fur by brushing your cat every day or every other day. Also, a high quality cat food would keep your cat's coat healthy. Cats are carnivores, so they should be eating grain-free food, preferably canned because the additional moisture in the food helps to keep their kidneys healthy. Wellness is a good brand of cat food.

Blue Buffalo cat foods do help maintain urinary tract health but there is no specific Blue brand for existing urinary problems. In the past, with our male cats who had issues, we were told grain free wet food only (Blue has several great types of grain free wet food), avoiding any fish flavors because of higher ash content and really push the water. That said, since the food your vet recommended is supposed to normalize the urinary tract and contains no ash (the culprit in feline kidney stones) you should do as he or she says. If the problem resolves, ask your vet if changing to a Blue formula would be okay.
