Questions & Answers for Comfort Zone Comfort Zone Diffuser Refill with Feliway for Cats

Question

Just one major problem...

My cat doesn't have any problems using the litter box, she occasionally scratches at things but not a lot... my biggest problem is she doesn't like anyone else but me. We've been living with my boyfriend for 6 months now and he still cant pet her without him getting a hand full of claw. I can tell she really wants to be nice but whenever it looks like she's going to rub up on him, she goes crazy. Will Feliway help her relax around him?

My cat was so scared of other people that she would not stay in the same room as my boyfriend of two years (we do not live together but he is here all the time.) NOW she will not only stay in the same room as him, she will remain visible!
Especially when it is one sale just giving it a try for a month is a MUST DO! If it does not work you won't be out much with no side effects, if it does then look how much you have gained! The reduction in your cat's stress will greatly reduce yours.
Also..... If your boyfriend is being at all aggressive about making friends your cat may misinterpret it. Take a look of that side of it also.

I've been using this product to help my scaredy cat and I think it is working. The product is supposed to calm anxiety in cats by saturating the environment in this synthetic version of their own natural calming pheromone. Most cats will exhibit anxiety by inappropriately marking territory or inappropriate elimination or scratching but my cat doesn't do any of those things either. I have noticed that he seems to have a boost in his confidence since using this product so based on my experience I would recommend you try it.

I started using Feliway because I recently added 3 feral kittens to my 2 cat household and putting it mildly that caused a very stressed environment. When I first started using it I was just trying to calm 1 of the cats because her stress was spreading to the other cats. After using the Feliway my 3 feral kittens started spending more time in the livingroom around other people and stopped running to my bedroom everytime someone came. These 3 cats were born feral so they've been taught to fear people since they were born and now with Feliway they are starting to trust more then just me and that's a miracle especially since it's been less then a month since I started using Feliway. I have hope now that these little cats will actually become sweet little loving friendly cats so I honestly think that this is the product for you and your cat. I think that you can give your cat the gift of love by helping her overcome her shyness with your boyfriend. If you do use this product just keep in mind that you will have more of a chance if you also stay patient and give her the time she needs to come around. Hopefully it'll happen the first month but no matter what I know you'll be happy with the results from Feliway and so will your kitty.

I think it will help some. But I would recommend more that your boyfriend not try to pet her, and just ignore her. Maybe occasionally offer her treats, but without trying to touch her. For some cats it takes a loooong time for them to trust someone and feel comfortable - it needs to take place on their own terms and time. My mother is not a cat person, (she doesn't mind them, just prefers dogs) she will ignore my cats or friends' cats, and they loooove her! I think it's because they don't feel threatened by someone trying to talk to them and pet them.

i actually don't know the answer to this, but i'd say it is worth a try...especially right now since the price is on sale until midnight tonight (nov 29th) since cyber monday. i am floored that it stopped my cat from spraying almost immediately. i am pretty positive that he has never re-sprayed in one area he used to on my carpet. it's been 6 months. i tried everything else.
when i introduced him to my old cat 8 years ago, i bought it in hopes of helping them to become friends. it was tense at first but after about 6 months they did grow to like each other. sometimes time is the best answer. and a very gentle approach. let her approach your boyfriend as opposed to the other way around. does he speak and walk softly? that could help. have him feed her and give her treats and gently say her name as he's doing it. good luck.

Question

Has anyone else noticed that the Feliway defuser and sprays makes your cat extremely tired and less playful

I have 5 feral cat rescues all differant ages. they were extremely stressed. They were fighting, growling and extremely jumpy. I heard about Feliway and figured it was worth a try. Within 48 hours I started noticing that 2 of my cats were extremely tired (couldn't keep their eyes open) anyways After 48 hours those cats weren't as sleepy but the others started to get just as sleepy. Feliway has helped with the stress but what concerns me is that they are less playful and spend a lot more time sleeping. I get that there sleeping so well because they are getting calmer from the Feliway defuser but I am afraid that if I keep using it they'll stop playing and start getting out of shape. Also I'm afraid that this product might be just sedating them and I don't want that to be the way they live there life. My cats are healthy no medical issues so I know the only thing that is causing the sleep cats is that. Is there anyway that this item is just sedating them and will it continue making them sleepy

My cats get very tired as well, but our kitten who is 18 months old is still extremely playful! I keep my cats on a lite diet, high in protein. Their weight has remained the same for almost a year.

Hope that helps.

I would CAREFULLY check both the active and inactive ingredients of both products to ensure that the formula is the same. The last thing you want is to make your cats sick. Also, check the fine print, perhaps the products are manufactured at the same product location/facility but sold under different names.

I think they say it is less effective on kittens younger than 6 months old because they have not yet developed the pheromone that this product mimics (something to that effect). I don't think there is any harm or risk in using it on young kittens though, it just probably will not work until they are 6 months+ of age.

Question

Does using a Feliway diffuser become less effective over time?

I began using the Feliway diffuser when my female cat stopped using her litter box to urinate. It worked wonders! That said, over time and with the introduction of a puppy to the household, it has been less effective. Poor thing, she will go anywhere else but her box (the bathtub is a favorite, but the carpet is no less immune), and I'm even using Cat Attract cat litter. She's obviously stressed, but I don't know what else to do to make her more comfortable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your cat is feeling disenfranchised and vulnerable. Create a "cat only" nook in a secure dark place (closet with a nice bed to curl up in) or a box on it's side with an old, but smells like you, T shirt.
Put the puppy away to it's own place as well for a couple of hours a day and let it sleep and let the cat have the run of the house. They will work out their relationship, but it also depends on the age of your cat and how long it ruled the house before puppy arrived. Each deserves a space and time of their own and shared time too under watchful eyes.
Try shredded newspaper in the litter box, then add plain litter a little at the time IF she uses the paper, then switch to 60-70% plain clumping litter to balance of "smells covering" litter. Also, my litter boxes are IN the Tub (we use a shower) and small plastic dish pan is in front of the box to catch loose litter from feet. It really keeps the stray litter to a minimum. I have lots of cats and only one has a "not in this place" when under stress and finds the dish pan more to her liking or the bathroom sink, but for the most part uses the box (unless it needs a clean out-which I do 2-3 times a day). She is just persnickety.

Question

Is there a scent detectible by humans?

My roommate and I both have chemical sensitivities, but are sensitive to different things. I know the product says its safe for humans...,.but so are advil for some people. Can anyone give me an idea of what smell comes out to try to have an idea if we will be ok with this product. Out cats are playing off each others issues and causing quite a fuss and we really need them to be ok again.
