It IS a shock collar. It seems to me like everyone has a problem with shock collars on general principles. Does your vet specifically say your dog is too high strung? (In this case I'd listen.) Or does the vet just dislike shock collars? (In this case, I'd try it.) My trainer did not like the idea, but he also did not stop the fights, does not live with them, and has not been injured by them or had to take them to the vet, bleeding. I had to try all means, CAREFULLY and SUPERVISED. And I'm thrilled with the results. That's my 50 cents worth. Good luck!

it does give a correction but it has a learning setting, and there has to be a bark and a vibration for it to send out a correction. Coco's been wearing hers now for over 2 weeks and has only received 2 corrections, both when we first started using it. it literally stops barking in it's tracks! well worth it!!

Yes, it is a shock collar, it has 3 settings for you to choose from, and 0-10 levels of correction. I bought this for my dog that barks, I only had to use it once. He barked got a little zap, and now if he barks when not supposed to, I get the collar and he knows not to bark.

That is a difficult situation for you to be in and we apologize you are receiving mixed signals. Not all vets recommend static-based training and that's a personal preference. There are a large number of vets and training professionals that do support static-based training. It is safe and very effective. It takes you out of the equation so you cannot mishandled to training tool. This collar relies on BOTH the sound of your dog barking and the vibration of the vocal chords to emit a correction. This means that your dog is only going to be corrected for his/her own bark and the almost instant correction allows the dog to learn quickly. Hope this helps!

Yes this collar gives the dog a static correction when they bark. A static correction collar is the most effective way to stop a dog from barking. The dog basically train themselves not to bark with this collar. We recommend that the dog wear the bark collar for 8 to 12 hours a day only. Our product experts are standing by to help should you have any further questions. To speak with a PetSafe Customer Care associate, please call 1-800-732-2677. No. The collar is designed to detect vibrations from the dogs neck (bark), and sound of his bark. It will not detect either of these from the other dog unless you put the collar on him/her.

I have two dogs who have barking issues and, also have visiting dogs.
The cool part is that the collar requires sound AND a vibration to trigger the correction. So, unlike the citronella collars, it only triggers when the dog wearing the collar, barks.

Absolutely. The worst part of my dogs barking, was the howling. They always started out barking and then went into howling. But since the collar is triggered with both the vibration AND sound, I can't imagine it wouldn't work. Also, at least PetCo gives you 30 days to try it out. If it doesn't solve the problem you can return it.

Question

Can the SportDog Bark Collar and Invisible Fence be used together without confusing the dog?

I have 2 eleven month old dogs that love to bark at everything. They are currently on the invisible fence and I was considering a bark collar to help control the barking. Will it be effective to use the bark collar along with the invisible fence or will it be confusing to the dogs. They do well on the fence and don't challenge it at all.

That is a great question. It is safe to use both bark control collar and in-ground fence Collar Receiver together. This should not confuse your dog. In fact, the fact your dogs are trained to an in-ground fence will most likely allow them to learn and adjust to a bark collar more quickly because they have learned that their behavior controls the correction already.

PetSafe recommends that you use only 1 collar at a time. If you place a bark collar on your dog they might also think that it's the fence collar as well. It depends on how well your dog is trained on the fence system. If you have any other questions please call PetSafe Customer Care at: 1-866-738-4379.

We recommend that your dogs wear only 1 collar at a time. Since your dogs are pretty well trained on the Invisible Fence system you could try putting a bark collar on one of the dogs to curb the barking. Your dog might think that the bark collar also works with the Invisible Fence system. I recommend that you call PetSafe Customer Care at: 1-866-738-4379 if you have any other questions. This is an excellent solution for unwanted barking. This collar includes PerfectBark technology which means it requires BOTH the sound of your dog barking and the vibration of the vocal cords to issue a correction. This ensures your dog is only corrected for his/her barking. Additionally, the stimulation is issued within a fraction of a second. This ensures that your dog is able to connect the problem behavior to the correction. It's extremely important that your dog receive this kind of quick correction so that he/she clearly understands the correction. We think you will find this a quick and easy training process with this collar. It's also rechargeable so it will be ready whenever you're for a walk.

By sound, do you mean a warning tone? The bark collar does not have a waning tone. This is on the in-ground fence models. The reason for this is on a bark collar is because there is no "warning" area for barking. A dog is either barking or not. On an in-ground fence system, if your dog is approaching the boundary, but has not crossed it, that's a warning tone. As soon as he crossed the boundary a correction is issued. The reason for this is that you want the undesired behavior to stop. That's what the stimulation is communicating to your dog. Additionally, if a dog were to use a bark collar and learn he could bark a time or two and only get a tone, you will not resolve the problem behavior. The dog will just learn to bark only a couple of times. Plus, he/she would learn that the beep can be ignored, and that is very dangerous if you are participating in other electronic training such as in-ground fences or e-collars. You want for every form of stimulation to mean something to your dog, and tone, static, vibration, etc. are all stimulation.

If you go on the SportDog website they have instructional videos on how to operate the collar-short clips that are very informative. The collar senses vibrations too so if the dog was giving a low growl-something that would give the collar a vibration-then it may have given a correction stimulus. Also, make sure the collar is placed correctly on the dog and as the instructions state, do not use a collar. I use a nylon harness-nothing with any metal. That could be interfering with the collar.

My 11 month old Pit bull would whine and also bark. As soon as the collar goes on him he is quiet and lays down and goes to sleep. I would totally recommend this product for the whining as well as the barking. Once the whining reaches a certain level, the correction is triggered and the whining stops. It only took my pup a couple times of getting corrected for him to figure out what causes the correction and he doesn't whine or bark now. I have only had the collar 2 weeks, I feel that at some point soon I will know longer need to put the collar on him.

If you follow the instructions and only keep the collar on for the recommended amount of time or up to the max recommended per day, the charge on the lowest setting I used would last 4 to 5 days and then need to be recharged to its fullness which doesn't take that long at all. One note: I opt to use it for the max amount each day for 2 days and then started dropping it down to really only an hour after 5 days and then just leaving them off but keeping the collars on them for a few hours and eventually the barking completely changed in about 3 weeks that I didn't need the collars at all anymore. They are very intimidating at first and I know some people don't agree with this type of behavior corrections, but if used correctly and really at the lowest setting, your dog will get the idea quickly and will immediately adapt to a well like behavior. I did think it was a bit inhumane at first but like I said, I followed the instructions on the SportDog website and the 3 weeks of use I can say turned off the excessive barking that all the other small priced products couldn't do. I even bought the Bark Dog House, the remote Dog Bark Controller Clicker and nothing worked but this did. I think what really made this easy is that I was able to get to the result within 2 weeks and I felt great when I was able to just put the collar on but in the off position and they controlled their barking as if the collars where on and activated. I thought without them, they would soon go back to barking, but its been 2 years since I used them and I love my dogs more now than at first because they were out of control and I had neighbors complaining. They Bark now, but Bark when a dog should Bark. Their not Bark-Less Dogs after using the collar, just a behavioral change made the world of difference. Good Luck

The collar has to be fairly snug or it will slide around but there are plenty of holes that you should be able to get it to fit around any size neck. I have 2 other dogs and their barks DO NOT set the collar off. I had a previous shock collar that was activated by my other dogs. The SportDog collar should be fine for a 16 pound poodle. The nice thing about this collar is you can choose the mode of correction. You will understand what I mean when you read the directions.

That is a great question. The appropriate level of correction varies by dog. Breed and temperament both play a part in the correction level that will be appropriate for you dog. With the SBC-10R we offer a Temperament Learning mode that will increase automatically as your dog barks. Once your dog stops barking the collar will remember the correction level appropriate for your dog. If you want to go with User-Selectable correction also offered on this collar, start at the lowest level and work your way up until your dog stops the barking, but does not look pained. This collar also offers Progressive Learning mode so the correction level will rise as the dog barks and then return to the lowest level.

SportDog Rechargable Bark Collar...It's the best! Used it on our MinPin, and she has a super small neck. She is 13 years old and we've always had problems with her barking during storms. First time she wore this collar, it worked! Only wish we would have found it sooner! My MinPin is 11 lbs.

Question

I bought this product and it works very well on my barky Dalmatian. However, in under three months, the casing over the mode button fell off.

Will the manufacturer replace it?
