Yes there is aback up battery but the instructions do not specify how long it will last. It does say to replace the battery every nine months. It is one of those batteries that look like a fat watch battery. I have never had to rely on mine.

answer 2
The digital clock has a battery backup that should be good for several years, so if the power goes out or it gets unplugged the time and your program will be saved.

It does not have a battery backup for the outlets, if the power goes out the clock keeps going but the outlets will not have power.

It does have a battery. I don't know how long it would last. It's like a watch battery for the LED display so I bet a while.

There are two night and two day plugs. When the day comes on, the night is automatically shut off. You can't set the two day plugs to different times, they are programmed together, as with the night.

answer 2
Thank you for your question Chrizm. This power center provides 8 outlets. 4 of them (white) are designed to run full-time. 2 of them are intended for daytime (yellow) and the remaining 2 are intended for nighttime (blue). Note - the daytime & nighttime outlets are designed to alternate power, both outlets cannot be on at the same time - when Yellow (daytime) outlets are on, the Blue (nightime) outlets are off, when the Yellow (daytime) outlets turn off, the Blue (nightime) outlets are switched on automatically. The timer allows for individual day settings that are specific to the day or set for general weekday/weekend, or a more general everyday setting.

Question

Can I plug this into a thermostat?

Can I plug this power center into a thermostat, so that I can have my UTH, Day bulb, and Night Bulb regulated through one thermostat? Or would I need to run each heating device through its own thermostat? And would it be safe to plug this power center to a thermostat using a 3-prong adapter?

Thanks for your question SnakesAreCurious. A couple of things... while there is a back-up battery for the timer it should be able to hold the time through the thermostat shut-offs, as long as the battery is good, but the constant on/off would wear on the battery and eventually the programs and time will be lost. Keep in mind that this is not how the unit was designed and was not tested in this manor, so any testing of this in this manor may harm the unit and shorten its lifespan.

Question

Can this timer be used with a freshwater aquarium?

All the descriptions for this product mention its use for reptile terrariums, with the outlets used for both heat and light cycles. No mention is made of its use with aquariums. Any reason(s) this timer should not be used around water?

I use this timer with a water fountain for my birds. Just make sure you take the correct precautions, such as allowing the cord to curve under before the plug in. This is standard on any water plug. I do this with my pump cord and with the actual power strip itself just to be on the safe side. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work for an aquarium.
