Questions & Answers for Natural Balance Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diets Green Pea & Chicken Formula Dry Cat Food

Question

Cats & diets for kidney disease

My 15 yr old cat has kidney disease and was prescribed a low protein diet by our vet. I have been feeding him the Natural Balance Green Pea and Chicken dry food for a while, and sometimes buy the prescribed food from our vet. Is the NB low enough in protein or is there a better choice?

My vet said this would be a great food for my cats early stages of kidney disease. It is hard finding a food with a protien level below 30%. Majority of calories should be coming from canned food as well.

You should try Soulistic Autumn Bounty Chicken Dinner in Pumpkin Soup Adult Cat Food Pouches, along with other pouch varieties (green, red, blue) that have the right levels of phosphorus, magnesium, protein and sodium---plus the moisture they need to be healthy. This is the BEST food quality, I've found, for my cat's kidney issues. And your cat should be eating wet food primarily anyway, especially with a kidney issue. Check out my review for details. Fair warning that it is pricey--but you are likely used to that with NB anyway. Most importantly, try it out and see what your cat thinks! Good luck...

Question

Can you switch from duck and chicken?

Can you switch around the limited ingredient diets like sometimes chicken and pea and sometimes duck and pea for cats if they are not allergic to a single protein? Are most the other ingredients identical except the protein? Has anyone done this with no issues?

When switching your pet's diet, we recommend transitioning from the current diet to the new product over a 10-day period. Replace 10% of the current diet with the new product each day until they are fully transitioned. If you do not have any of your current formula to mix, reduce the amount of the new product fed for the first few days, feeding smaller more frequent meals and increase over time. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to the Natural Balance Customer Care Team by calling the number on the packaging.
