Question

prong training collar

I have two schoodles who just turned 1. I have used a training harness (19 bucks each) and they chewed two of them in half. I am currently use the gentle leader and I have chain leashes and they do well, but one of the gentle leaders has already started to fray. I'm curious as to how this would work with these smaller dogs. I don't want to hurt them, but they pull really bad when I don't have some kind of control in place.

I really believe this would help even small dogs. This collar looks mean but dogs have much tougher skin than humans and the pinch is supposed to resemble what their mothers would do to them to discourage unwanted behavior. I started using this on my out of control dog and he responded to it with amazing results, and it does not appear to hurt him at all. In fact, he loves when I put it on him because he knows it is time to go for a walk

The prong collar work off of pressure points. It is much safer then the regular chain because it does not catch on itself as easily. As long as you just use it as a corrective aid, you will not hurt your dogs.

The prong collar should NOT be slipped on and off a dog over the head. This risks injury to their eyes and will not give a correct fit for the collar. You should instead link and unlink the collar each time you take it on and off.

You shouldn't be pulling a prong collar over your dogs head. Try unhinging it and hinging it every time you put it on and take it off. If its big enough to fit over his head then it is probably not fitted correctly for his neck. It should be sitting snug on his neck right behind his ears. I have a 65lb pit mix and use the large prong collar and it fits just fine. You can also adjust the size of the collar by removing hinges (which i had to do) and adding hinges to the collar.

One great thing about the prong collar is the prongs can be removed or added back if necessary. I think they even sell additional prongs.

Yes they do. You can buy them for small dogs all the way to extra large dogs. I have a big dog so just to be on the safe side I bought the biggest one they have because you can add or remove links in order to make it fit your dog. However, extra links cost so it is probably best to buy it a little big and remove links. Plus your dog will be able to grow into it and you can add the links back as the dog gets bigger

I would certainly give this a try. Once you have their attention, you can really make great gains in training - works great with our airedale terrier.

The weight is on the collar. You don't want anything too big or it won't have the effect you need to train.

Our pit bull really pulled when we walked her but she responded at once with the prong collar. All you need is a little tug and it doesn't hurt them but reminds them to back off.

answer 2
I have a 4 month old pit, 35lbs, because of his head size I use a large, which is probably what you'd want also. And no it doesn't hurt them at all, actually if the dog is a puller just being on collar and leash will hurt him because of the pulling and strain on the neck, chocking themselves from hard pulling. This has helped awesomely with control over my puppy, he's still getting used to wearing it, but when walking he doesn't pull or lunge, as long as I have control on the leash.
I would recommend this to ANYONE that has a dog that pulls, has been a wonder for me
