No this under tank heater doesn't heat anything. My pet crabs were so cold even with it i had to use my heated bed sheet on my own bed to keep them warm until my heat lamp comes in.

Thank you for your question leopardgeckoowner. This is the thermo switch (sort of like a thermostat) and is not a danger in any way. A faint sound is not uncommon, but it should not be really loud.

The temperature can not be adjusted with these heating mats. There are products available that you can use to set the tank temperature. One exmaple is the ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R Terrarium Thermostat.

I think you can... you would just have to use an extra heating lamp til it gets to the heat temp you wanted then set it up on a timer to maintane your desired temp. Timers are our best friend!

Question

Do I need to put something under the heating pad so it doesn't burn my dresser? Also, can it be mounted on the side too? Thanks:)

You shouldn't put the heating pad directly onto the dresser. It should be mounted to the bottom of the cage with the little rubber feet in place to allow heat to escape. I highly recommend that you do mount it onto the side. But if you have already stuck it to the bottom do not remove it, as it can cause damage to the delicate wiring of the heating pad.

The spacers are a nice feature, but not one that I would use to select a UTH heater for your reptile alone. Competitive heat mats use a standard wire heating element wound back and forth to distribute the heat. The alloy they are using is called nichrome which is a nickel chromium alloy. The downside with wire type heat mats is that the more current is applied the hotter they get. In case of an electrical fault where the current is not properly regulated they will overheat. In order to prevent overheating a very thin wire is used to reduce current flow. It makes the heat mat more fragile and can break more easily. The Zilla heat mats use a resistive carbon fiber element. The material itself heats up as current is applied. The material is self limiting to 45 degrees C. Adding more current does not make it get any hotter. The unit also has a thermal switch which maintains the ideal temperature. There are no thin wires that can become broken inside the material.

no, it will melt the plastic. Also, I do not reccomend uth anyway as they have a tendancy to overheat and burn your reptile.

Question

Is this product advisable for hermit crabs?

I have a ten-gallon tank that I keep my hermit crabs in. My Zoo-Med hermit crab heater that I just bought does not heat up my tank enough, if at all. Does this under-tank heater work for hermit crabs/what temperature does it heat the tank?

Thank you for your question AddieAnise. I see no reason why you couldn't use this for a hermit crab. In a 10g glass terrarium the advised size is the small (actual mat is 8 watts and measures 6"x8"). If you are needing to heat up your environment to improve appetite and metabolism you would typically do this in conjunction with a heat lamp. Be sure to use the heat lamp and heat mat on the same side of your terrarium so that you provide a temperature gradient allowing your pet an area to bask in the heat and then move to a hiding den on the other side of the terrarium.

Thank you for your question sarahgirl222. Under Tank Reptile Heating pads are not designed to be removed and re-used. The process of removing these kind of units, once adhered to the bottom of a terrarium, is prone to damage the electronic components within the heating pad.

Thank you for your question petcorecamedor. The mini size (4 watts) will cover 1-5 gallon terrariums (terrarium surface up to 8" x 16"). The small size (8 watts) will cover 10-20 gallon terrariums (terrarium surface up to 12" x 30"). The medium size (16 watts) will cover 30-40 gallon terrariums (terrarium surface up to 18" x 36"). The large size (24 watts) will cover 50-60 gallon terrariums.
