answer 2
The fixture only uses T5 HO bulbs. It does allow independent control of the 2 lamps, so you don't have to occupy both slots, but you cannot mix and match bulb types.

answer 4
T5 refers to the size of the bulb, and the kind of ballast it needs. You can't put a T8 or a T12 in a T5 fixture. It will only drive T5 bulbs. Having said that, companies make T5 bulbs that give off different wavelengths of light, from normal fluorescent "white", to more purple plant lights.

answer 5
t5s are florescent bulbs .. if you mean the t8 florescent bulbs that you commonly find when you first purchase a non high output fixture then no because the diameter of the two bulbs are different... t5s are much thinner

Question

Could you simply set the fixture on a glass top without the mounting brackets? Would it get too hot or anything?

I have a glass top on the way for my 29 gallon tank. I'm not sure if this fixture will work for it though unless I just set it on top.

answer 2
The 30" one is made for the 29gal tank.
The light is too hot to be placed on top of the glass mostly
because it would raise the temp of the water a lot. If the legs
just don't fit right you could run a couple of pieces of the light
"S" link chain down from the ceiling/w J hooks in the ceiling.

answer 2
No, it will not work with ANY hood or cover.
- The claps are such that they grasp your aquarium from inside and outside.
- It has an advantage in that it tilts up and back, so you have more clearance and access into your tank.
