Training our dog to use patio for potty
We have a almost 8 year old Golden Retriever. She is house broken and is a very good girl about it even if she hass a upset stomach. WE live in a high rise and she eve with diarhea will hold it till we get down to the first floor from one of the high floors and wait to get otuside to do her business. What Im thinking of doing is trying to get her to use one of our patios as her potty place and not deal with going outside at all. There are so many people with dirty animals and they dont pick up after them. this is supposed to be a high rise luxury condo property. I just dont want her getting sick anymore. I keep her very clean and its just grosss. Has anyone else tried this?? Did it work? How would I go about getting her to learn this? We are moving in about 3 months and then we will go back to a house where she goes out like normal.. Any info would be appreciated.

We just got an English Bulldog puppy and he is litter trained. I would recommend looking into that for your Golden Retriever. The litter is called Second Nature from Purina. They do not sell the litter pans anymore though. We bought a plastic storage bin and cut an opening in the side. The only difficulty you may have is finding a bin large enough for your large dog. Maybe a small plastic swimming pool would work? This litter is for indoors only but it does not smell at all. I am not sure how you would train her at 8 years old, it would probably take a lot of work and encouragement you your part. Good luck!

I had the same sort of problem. I live in an apartment where lots of dogs use the courtyards for their business. I didn't want my new puppy going out there until she was fully vaccinated, so I purchased the Pet Loo. It works great! She goes every time we take her out to it, and it's very compact. It fits perfectly on my balcony.
My only complaint is the smell. It WILL smell like urine, but what can you really expect? The Wee Care cleaner helps a lot, so purchase that. I also purchased a diaper genie to put out there so I can bag and dispose of waste easily. It was such an easy solution!
The Loo is also very easy to clean, just know it will smell unless you clean it every day. Some people recommend putting potty pads underneath the grass area, but I would rather wipe it down than continue to buy those!
The smell is nothing compared to the convenience and the knowledge that your baby is safe! And you can always clean it when you want to use the balcony :)
