Hi,
It should have. When i got mine, the post just screws down into the base,with a few turns. I wish they had a wayy underneath the base to tight it into place more, like a countersunk bolt, because the branches do turn as my cat rubs his ace on them. But it has never come out or fallen over either. If you didn't have a way to attach the post - it had to be missing a part that should have been there.

I do nto recall any hardware included - just take it out and screw into place as far as I recall.... but it was last christmas now so don't hold me to it! : )
