Aquariums are usually made of Glass or Plastic. Under the Plastics category we have Acrylic, Polycarbonate, and Styrene. This particular aquarium is most likely made of Styrene.

Tetras are the best choice. Specifically Blue Neon Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, Lamp Eye Tetras and other small breeds of tetras. No more than 1 fish per gallon, unless you upgrade the biological filtration cycle and take proper maintenance.
