Your package instructions will provide you information on the total number of tablets to use. I use WormX, which Petco sells, and treat multiple size dogs. In the case of that product, my 75# rescues get 2 tablets, my 45# rescue gets 1, and my 150# plus rescues get 3 or 4 tablets, depending on their total weight. That's why I buy the multiple tablet packs on sale.

Insofar as treating multiple times, traditional vets recommend treating 3 times over a 6-9 week period, to be sure you've also killed any newly hatched tapeworms. There are holistic vets that feel this is too much. If this is the first time you are treating your pet, and/or if you walk / live in a high flea-infested environment (which is where the eggs come from), then I would recommend treating twice, with a 3-week rest between treatments. You will then notice if there are still tapeworm pieces in the feces, and can re-treat as needed after that.

I do rescue work, and don't worm my dogs unless they show signs of being infected. Their feces will have worm pieces. Otherwise, if you have a reasonably-priced vet nearby, you can regularly have the stool tested. Worming products recommend 3 treatments to kill what is inside, including eggs. If you live in an area with a high flea and tick population, it is more likely that you will be worming more often.

It often is. You need to remember that a wormer is a product designed to kill parasites, so it will also sometimes upset your dog's internal system temporarily. Also keep in mind that your dog is expelling eggs, worms, etc that are no longer attached to various cavities, so there will be a higher load of feces.

Are these the heartworm pills that you give your dog once a month to prevent worms? Is the dosage 1 pill a month?

No, these are not heartworm tablets. These may have some effect on the juvenile heartworm nits, but none on adult heart worms. You can only purchase the tablets that will kill adult heartworms through a prescription from a vet, or directly from them. The reason is that treating heartworm can nearly kill the dog if it is not properly monitored and/or managed, since the dead worms can clog the heart muscle and/or lung arteries if the dog is too active.

How long does it take for the D Worm Combo medication to work?

I have a terrible phobia of worms so when I saw one in my puppies stool I freaked out. I gave her the d worm combo pill and haven't seen any since then. But I can't find anywhere how long it is supposed to take.
