If you get the 501 or 511 filter its an easy set up with tubes that's provided with the kit. They suction cup to the side of the tub with ease and the outfil tube sprays water into the tub. I would definitely get a 100w or 150w water heater and set the diode on 89-90 F depending on your little buddies. The 501/511 also doesn't circulate water as well as one would hope, so you may want an aerator and circulator to go with it.

We did not use the out of tub canister filter as shown in the complete kit. We used our 50 gal. aquarium filter and modified a metal clothes hanger to suspend the unit and adjust the height of the filter unit so that it could operate at the proper water level. If you have a filter that hangs over the side of an aquarium, this is what you may do. Please see my photo.

I use a Eheim Ecco 2236 canister filter for mine. Any canister filter should work well. Just make sure the water intake is below the tank.

I used a magnum h.o.t. filter ( which hangs on the rim of the tub) and extended the lift and exhaust tubes with cut to length vinyl tubing so it could access the water. It is working quite well.

Describe full grown? If they're as big as they CAN get, that's over a foot wide for some of them and you'll need a tank or a pond (if you live far enough south). But if you're talking 4-5 inches I'm sure it could handle 2 of them as long as they're not aggressive to one another.

How big are your red-eared sliders? See my pic of our one southern painted turtle. She's mature enough to have just laid her first clutch of eggs. We got her in May 2012 and this picture was taken in February 2013. We're hoping to get a mate for her this spring and keep it in the same tub. When you fill the tub to just below the basking area level, the water is about 8" deep.

Question

Are the dimensions listed correct?

It looks like the height and width measurements might be switched. 21" seems tall for this tub. These are not the same dimensions as the tub listed in the full kit listing. Thanks.

Exactly as specified. The tub is deep which is nice to give your turtle some privacy. Our southern painted turtles thinks she's in a real pond and the depth helps keep filter splashing contained.
