The color is kind of a "dolphin gray". Not blue at all like it seems online. It's a cool tone gray which might seem a bit more blue than a taupe or sandy grey. The inner sleeping surface fabric is very much silver.

Yes, small would be okay unless you wanted more room to stretch out. The bed is comfortable and the side squishes down all plush like. My dog loves it.

I have a 20# Brussels Griffon and I bought a medium. It is perfect. A small would have been too little for him.

The small's inner sleeping area is 12.5 x 12, so I would imagine it's better for a toy breed or cat.

I'd go for the medium, which is 18.5 x 18" inside.

I think a small might fit a toy breed or a cat better. I don't think a 20 lb long dog would have room to stretch out. I'd aim for a medium and if it's too big, you can always tuck in a blanket, some of your dog's favorite soft toys, or send it back!

The large has a sleeping area dimension of 26 x 27", which is long and wide enough for a long and lankly 70 lb greyhound to stretch out comfortably. I don't think you'd need bigger than a Large, and an X-Large is comically big (More than ample for any Great Dane or Newfoundland).

answer 2
These beds are wider than they are deep (oblong) so the longest dimension would be side-to-side, and the shorter dimension would be front-to-back.

answer 3
No, it isn't. In most cases - not just with dog beds - the Length measurement refers to the longer of the 2 dimensions. Occassionally it will be the "left to right" measurement, but that's only if it's shorter than the width and MUST be used in that position.

Question

Can you remove the bolster and the base of the dog bed and wash the outer cover?

If they are removeable, is the zipper for the bolster separate from the base cushion zipper ? (...are they 2 zippers??) The last bed I purchased (just like this bed), was great until I washed them. There was only 1 zipper for both the bolster and bottom cushion of the bed. It just never fit properly back onto the bed...it was "floppy." ( I DID NOT WASH THE INSIDE FOAM CUSHIONS OR BOLSTER.)

She still sleeps in it but, it's really horrible now and I paid $125.00 for the bed...(And, I had actually purchased 2 of them, because they were rated so highly...Unfortunately, both did the same thing! I did love them initially, until the 2nd washing, (6mos. apart) on gentle, washed separately.
I don't know why, but they just lost their firmness in the material...maybe the cushions too?

answer 2
The bolster section is zipped into it's own snug compartment and the base zips in to another one under it. (2 zippers) The bolster stays nice and tight with no flabbiness in any part of the cover, as long as you get the flat-side of the base foam rotated into the right spot.

My cat had a urinary tract infection and went potty on this bed multiple times and it had to be washed many MANY times. I washed the entire bed on gentle with 2x rinse and it came out perfect every time. It was also washed at the vet multiple times and came home with kitty in the same perfect condition as it left in. I also have this in one of the larger sizes for our dog and it has been washed 3-4 times now and is still perfect.

My dog weighs 80 lbs and she has room in the large size. If she stretches out she will be up on the sides, but it's squishy and comfortable. It's bigger than I thought it was be. It seems to take up a lot of room on the floor.

The #1401955 is a Medium. The medium has a sleeping inner dimension of 18.5 x 18".

The small is 12.5 x 12" between bolsters
The large is 26 x 27 between bolsters
The X-Large is 35 x 34" between bolsters

The foam underneath does NOT get thicker with size changes as the photos seem to indicate. They all have 3" of egg-crate foam as their base.

It seams to be measured on the outside. The bed fit in my puppy's crate exactly as the measurements describes, the fleace plush border (that he loves using as a pillow) is about 2.5-3inches wide so subtract that fromt he dimensions I suppose.

I'm pretty sure you cannot. I have contacted the manufacturer, and they do not package it separately, so retail stores would not either.

On the plus side, the cover on mine has lasted through 50+ machine washes and big thick claws "digging" at it every time the dog lays down, for 2 years. Unless you have an aggressive chewer, the cover will last.
