Question

Will this hurt the bio-filter?

I have a cycled ten gallon freshwater aquarium with one female swordtail in it. I do 20-25% water changes once a week and every time I have to clean the algae off the glass. Will this fix the algae problem? And I also dont want this to hurt the bio-filter. Thanks for the answers!

It cleared up my algea problem in 1 week. I think you are doing too much water change. 10% every other week is plenty. Get this and you will need to do it once a month only. Does not affect bio filter

Don't over-feed, this will also help keep your water clear. The UV Lamp will nort hurt your Bio Filter. Remember the good bacteria in your Bio Filter is in your bio chamber, filter media location, etc. As all your waste material passes through these areas is where the action takes place, not in your UV Sterilizer.

You'll be fine it won't effect or at least doesn't seem to bother my tank's good bacteria at all. The fish are happy and the water is very clear and clean. But if your thinking about one of these for a small ten gallon tank be sure to look for a small unit as this one I just reviewed is for larger tanks and just fit's into my 55 gallon tank. They do make a smaller mini sized unit's that should fit in a 10 gallon tank but do some research online about the size of the unit.

There is an LED light on it which tells you it is working. When the light is out you need to replace the lamp. The light is on the part that hangs on the outside of the tank. Also your water should look cleaner than before.

Most certainly! I have two turtles in a 40 gallon tank that sits next to a window, and it keeps the water algae free. The size of your tank will determine what size unit you need. My tank is only half full of water so the smaller 9W does the job just fine.

I don't know if you already have a replacement bulb or not, but I was told that the bulbs are made overseas and cost as much/more than the unit itself so you are better off just buying another whole unit than trying to replace the bulb. I have not looked into this, it is just what I have heard.

HI - Good Question. Your normal filter is mechanically removing dirt and debris from your water. A UV sterilizer is biologically killing live organisms in the water, but not filtering. So you do need both ! AA Aquarium Inc.

Hi and thanks for your question ! As the Green Killing Machine is always running with positive pressure, you may orient the bulb assembly in any orientation - upright - flat- on a diagonal ! Just keep the bulb and pump assembly under water and all will be fine. The little elbow on the end of the pump is just to encourage movement of water in your tank. AA Aquarium Inc.

Great Question ! We recommend that you use the Green Killing Machine continuously until you have PERFECT water for at least one week. After that use as needed - with a timer for your lights, on weekends, etc. Every tank is different and has different requirements. The UV bulb is a light bulb - the more it is on, the sooner it is to expire !

Yes it can be attached to the inside wall of your aquarium. It is held in place by suction cups that are affixed to the piece. Just be sure to wipe the wall clean of any film of algae or slime so the suction cups will adhere to the glass, and be sure to press firmly on the suction cups against the glass wall otherwise the unit will not stick.

Thanks for your question. The Green Killing Machine is designed to be attached to the inside wall of your aquarium. The power head has 4 suction cups for that purpose. This pump (for 9 Watt UV) is about 2" x 2 " x 2.5". The bulb assembly(which can be oriented horizontally if needed) is about 9" x 2" x 1.5". When assembling into your tank, please make sure the mounting surface for the UV system is clean prior to attaching the pump via the suction cups; this will aid in it adhering for a longer time.
