answer 5
I have the Drinkwell 360 Stainless Steel fountain and it holds at least 2 liters and does not hook up to a water source. There is a minimum fill line so you don't want the fountain to drop below that or you could compromise the motor. To keep the level above the minimum fill line I have to add water to it daily. I have 2 cats and a small/medium sized dog drinking from the fountain.

answer 3
Yes, there is enough space. I was concerned initially about the design, preferring to have a larger drinking area/open bowl with the fountain to the side. (That design, by another manufacturer, had lots of bad reviews due to faulty pumps.) My cats have no problems sticking their faces in, though. The "moat" is roughly three inches wide. There should be no problem sticking a paw directly under the dripping water, either, if that was your question.

answer 4
Yes, you may want to attach little rubber feet to prevent sliding. However, the fountain is VERY heavy with the proper amount of water in it - it probably won't budge unless they get VERY persistent.

In the past, I used a large dog bowl for our cats that pawed and flipped the water bowl leaving a lovely mess to clean up.

My cat Trudi likes to stick a paw in the water, then lick the water off her paw. There is enough room to stick a paw into the fountain, but I didn't view that as a problem...

Yes there is. One of my cats threw a hair tie into and fished it out later on. It's not as easy as it is with a regular bowl though. If you have a cat who likes to play with the water you may end up with some on the floor but probably not as much otherwise.

answer 4
With two cats using this plus evaporation, I have to add a large glassful (about 10 or 12 ounces or about 20% of a full bowl) every day. If you were planning to be away longer than a day, I would unplug it. If the water level gets too low, the pump will get very noisy and may be damaged.

I have a dog and cat that use ours and I like it because with our old one we did have to fill it almost everyday, but this one holds so much more water that I fill it every 2-3 days depending on when I get a chance to check it. I can go almost 3 days using the minimum guide line.
