It is recommended to use chinchilla sand not dust. The dust is very fine and can cause respiratory problems. But some people do use the chinchilla dustbath. Many people cant find the chinchilla sand, so they use the dustbath. Ive read that many people use the chinchilla dustbath without any problems for their hamsters. My suggestion is if you have a plastic dust bath house that chinchillas bathe in, then drill some holes in the top of the house so that the powder fumes can escape through the holes on top. I have 3 chins and I plan to use to remedy.
