There's a pull out pan beneath the upper house, but there's no screen over it. You have to hold onto the nest box until you have the pan out, and then set the nest box down onto the ground until you're ready to slide the pan back in. It's really a two person job if you want to keep from dumping the shavings and droppings as your pull the drawer out.
As for cleaning the ground in the screened in pen, I'd advice using a child-sized rake to rake out the dirty litter, or have a couple strong people help you move the unit completely so you can really clean it. There is no bottom screen over the ground, so be aware that your chickens can escape while you're lifting it. Better to collect them in a safe area first if you move the entire unit.

It has a tray on the bottom that you lift out. You clean it, dry it, and put it back in. Works especially good for chickens- I hope you have good luck with the rabbits though.
