I use my two for recycling, so you can definitely use them for other purposes than dog food storage, but if you're planning to store the hay outside I'm not sure if these are waterproof or not.

My opinion is, definately yes you can store hay, doors close securely and you can lock them if need to. I mentioned this idea to my daughter who also has a rabbit and she is going to do it, she also uses the containers for the rabbits,cat and dog food and she loves them.

Not a pro on rabbits but I don't see why not. It is a storage container and
with the nice tight fitting lid will keep your rabbits food fresh.

I think so. I've used these containers in feed rooms where I keep my horse, where mice are rampant, and as long as they are securely closed, I've never had any problems.

Yes, these do seal tightly. They stap closed when you push the door closed. There is even a way to attach a lock that would prevent squirrels from getting in. The material is made of a good sturdy plastic so I do not believe mice could eat through it.

Dear Snowball, I would suggest that you plan on just under what the Manufacterer says. For example we, bought the 60lbs ones ( medium I think), and we added approximately 50 lbs, and the food is right up to the opening. ( altho there is airspace above that.)

Unless you put them on their backs -- then you could fill them higher...but won't be able to stack them.
