You don't want to do this. There is plenty of room to add even medium large decor (just play with angle and turning the decor to get it in and out to clean as needed). Also of plenty cut-out room for heater, air lines, power filter or tubing for canister filter. It is tall sitting on a matching stand, I have to use a small step stool sometimes (I'm 5'6"), to replace artificial plants after cleaning them of algae. The acrylic is thick and SeaClear thought of everything in their design. The original cut-out for the lighting fixture and splash guard is a perfect fit you don't want to mess with. The aquarium is one solid piece well fused together at what almost appears like no seams. I use the splash guard, but with a Marineland LED light fixture. Very happy with this tank after one and half years of use; I even bought the same thing in the 46g bowfront 5 months ago (consolidating smaller tanks) for another room in the house - essentially same set-up with larger openings.
