The single unit is a little small for two Chins, however with a #183 add-on you can make it a (2) Story palace!

Thank you!

I've heard that only one chinchilla can fit into the single unit. But the double unit should be fine for 2!

I have two fancy (female) rats, but I think it's big enough to have three or four really. So probably two dumbo rats would be perfect, but no more than that.

Question

Is the tray at the bottom of this cage big enough to put bedding in?

I have a male rat, and he is a very big boy who needs more space. I really like this cage, but he isn't litter trained, and likes his bedding. I'm concerned that the tray at the bottom isn't deep enough. Thanks for any answers :)

The plastic pan is not good for bedding, either buy the deep pan from the manufacture or make one out of cardboard. I just cover my bottom one with fleece and litter training my rats; it's easier to clean and still soft on their feet.

answer 2
No. Rats tend to kick around their bedding and push it up into corners. This cage would be great if you used fleece. I have fleece on mine, but I use a small storage box on one side of the cage so they have some digging time. If you are stuck on using bedding, find a storage box, about 2 inches deep, and put it in the cage. Hopefully it will be big enough.

The cage is flat plastic, and the ramp comes with a fleece cover, so the rat's feet do not touch wires. I even covered the plastic bottom with a fleece blanket for additional comfort.

No! The bottom is plastic and the top is plastic. I always prefer to have fleece on my floors, but the plastic alone would be great. this is a great cage to have fleece floors.

On the Midwest Critter Nation with Stand, is the stand detachable? If so, what are the dimensions excluding the stand?

The stand is what you assemble first, but I think when I assembled it that those were some necessary slots I needed to hold the cage in place and make it whole (no tools required, everything just fits in to other pieces). It adds about a foot in height, but I don't think you use it seperate. Your best bet is to maybe get the add on unit, and cover the section of the bottom tray with the hole (there's a hole because it's an add on to make this current cage expandable to access other cages)

The stand is not detachable... It actually functions as the bottom of the habitat as well...

You can attach the smaller base on either side of the cage, but dumbos are big rats so I think that will be two crampped for more than one dumbo. The additional cage would be better for you.

It's 36" L X 24" W X 39" H with 1/2" wire spacing

The tray is not deep, but the company does sell a deeper tray. I covered my trays with fleece and just put a litter box in the corner for them to use.Less litter being used, less mess, and the floor is extra comfy.

answer 2
The Critter Nation cage is 36"L x 24"W x 39"H. The dimensions of the cage without the stand is 36"L x 24"W x 24 1/2"H. The bedding you would need is dependent on what is best for the type of animal you have in the cage. You can purchase the scatter guards which add an additional 4" above the pan. This will help to keep the bedding inside the cage.

I have two rats in there right now, I'm considering on getting a third from how big this cage is. Attached is a size comparison between a guinea pig cage to this one, you can tell from the wooden house they are dramatically different sizes.

The cage size recommended for rats is 2 cubic feet of space per rat. The Critter Nation cage provides 12 cubic feet of space. Yes, the cage would provide enough room for 3 rats.

I am also a guinea pig owner and I'm pretty sure a guinea pig wouldn't really like this. My guinea pig doesn't even like a small ramp, much less two steep levels in a cage. I don't really think a guinea pig would like this cage.

The stand is necessary to hold the cage together; since no tools are required your putting pieces into each other and that's a vital part to hold them all together. You can maybe try getting the add on cage, but there is a gap on the bottom floor so you'd have to have something on the bottom to make it a solid surface.

Question

can a guinea pig or two use this habitat?

my guinea pig seems so depressed so I want to get her a friend but I do not want to get a small little cage for an outrageous amount of money! And I need something that has its own stand since I do not have something big enough to put a huge habitat on.

The Critter Nation cage is not designed with Guineas in mind, therefore we cannot recommend it's use for Guineas. The Guinea Habitat is specifically designed for guinea's needs.
