The Auto-Lock Pressure Gate may be used at the BOTTOM of the stairs only, provided you can install it against the wall and/or banister with the required amount of tensions needed to make the gate secure and effective. Proper installation also helps the latch work correctly.
NO pressure gate--not this one or ANY other--is recommended for top-of-stair use.
If you decide to install this gate at the bottom of your stairs, note that the door swings open in just 1 direction. Also, there is a stabilizing bar at the bottom of this gate--something to be mindful of in a high-traffic area like stairs.
For top and bottom of stairs, we recommend gates that are wall-mounted with hardware.
