By the way they designed the gate and accompanying sections, you just have to rearrange the section-ends so that you put the gate on the desired side, either far left or far right. It's a bit tricky because you have to pay attention to keeping the bottom rails at the bottom so when you flip the sections, you need to flip them horizontally. The attachment points only mate one way.
Not sure if you meant a 77 inch porch "opening" or that's how wide your porch is, or both? I pulled my folded gate out to 77" to see if it would reach okay, and the two sections fold in just a bit but reach 77" okay so that both ends could be attached to the walls. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your question. Yes, you can install the door panel at one end. However, this gate is steel and will rust outdoors as it is designed for indoor use only. Search #1455702 on PETCO.com for our gate designed for use outside. With extensions, it will span the distance you need and the gate can be put on the end you choose.
