It has a spring loaded hinge made of metal. It is very secure when it is closed. The entire black part in the picture lifts up from one long side and stays affixed to the carrier via a regular house door like hinge on the other long side.

Question

Would this be good for moving 2+ full grown ferrets?

I will be moving this summer (driving) and I need to find a carrier to hold my 2+ full grown ferrets. I love that this has a top door because that will make it easier for me to get them in and I could also hang a hammock if I can find one where all doors are metal. But would this be the best option for them, comfortably, and their safety? If not please recommend a carrier!

Yes, 2 full grown ferrets should fit. . Inside dimensions are 12" wide, 20" long, and 13" high. The top opening is 7 1/2 " by 16".

The front load door appears to be metal and the grating, the rod that keeps the top load door latched, and the top load door hinge pin is metal. The rest of the top load door, including the handle seems to be (feels like) very tough plastic.
I could be mistaken.

I think that the large size carrier would be fine for 2 ferrets to travel in. A hammock would fit inside easily. The top load opening is a really nice feature.

Yes you can. This crate actually has an opening on top where you can put your pet in and out so you can actually open the top to pet your dog or give him a treat.

answer 3
The handle does fold down but this item is too large to be used inside the cabin. We recommend checking with the airline you will be flying on to determine if they will accept this ventilated door concept in their cargo area. Some airlines will not for the fear something could leak or fall inside the openings and harm the pet.

What size (Small or Large) for a Domestic Short Hair kitten?

I am adopting a kitten from a shelter and want to get all her supplies before she comes home with me. She is currently 6 months and weights about 8-10 pounds. No, there isn't a dedicated seat belt slot. When taking my cat somewhere I place the kennel in the front seat facing forward and thread the seatbelt through the carrying handle on top of the kennel. Haven't had the kennel slide at all, just tighten the belt once buckled.

This product does not come equipped with a seat belt slot but the center seat belt can usually be threaded through the handle and then latches. This helps prevent the unit from sliding back and forth on the seat.

If they are very friendly with each other, however it would be somewhat crowded, especially for that long a period. For a short trip to the vet, it would be manageable, again, if they like each other. I would suggest two carriers for a long trip.

Question

TSA-Approved for cargo rather than in-cabin?

We're in a unique situation...shipping our cat cross-country as cargo rather than having him in a carry-on bag in the cabin with us. All of the airlines willing to do this have bizarre and confusing requirements for carriers...they must be made of hard-sided plastic, have only one front-loading door that is secured with metal fixtures, have two bowls inside that must be accessible from outside the carrier WITHOUT requiring the carrier to be opened. The last one has me scratching my head...has anyone heard of such a carrier, or know where to purchase? Thx.
