Yes the door is hinged. Just squeeze to open the latch and swing the door up and open.

It has a hinge on one side. It is very easy to operate. You just press the opener together and lift.

The side door is metal. The top door is plastic.

I purchased this carrier today. The top door is made of brown plastic that matches the bottom half of the carrier.

Would this be good for moving 2+ full grown ferrets?

I will be moving this summer (driving) and I need to find a carrier to hold my 2+ full grown ferrets. I love that this has a top door because that will make it easier for me to get them in and I could also hang a hammock if I can find one where all doors are metal. But would this be the best option for them, comfortably, and their safety? If not please recommend a carrier!

knowing the size of ferrets because my neighbor has 2 I think this carrier would be just fine. larger than u think.

I think that the large size carrier would be fine for 2 ferrets to travel in. A hammock would fit inside easily. The top load opening is a really nice feature.

TSA-Approved for cargo rather than in-cabin?

We're in a unique situation...shipping our cat cross-country as cargo rather than having him in a carry-on bag in the cabin with us. All of the airlines willing to do this have bizarre and confusing requirements for carriers...they must be made of hard-sided plastic, have only one front-loading door that is secured with metal fixtures, have two bowls inside that must be accessible from outside the carrier WITHOUT requiring the carrier to be opened. The last one has me scratching my head...has anyone heard of such a carrier, or know where to purchase? Thx.

You'll have to double check, and of course it's been awhile since you asked, but this has one door and the food and water dish can be placed on the front grate and filled w/out opening the crate.
