One cup in AM and one cup PM as per my breeder. My vet suggests looking at the recommended amounts on the bag and start with the lowest amount.

I always thought I was feeding my dog one cup twice a day and could not explain to the vet why my female bulldog weight 66 pounds. I went home and when it was time for dinner, I scooped up like I usually do and poured it into a measuring cup. OMG!!!!!! I was feeding my poor baby 3.5 cups TWICE a day for a total of 7 cups.

Now we know why she got so large.

This is a good question since the needs can vary by breed and activity.
I wish manufactures would list calories per cup. This is the best way to
measure in my view. I am thinking the Grain Free Buffalo is around 620- 640 calories per cup? You can call Merrick and check to be exact. I compared this
to Taste of the Wild which is less. I want to say 460? or around that.
I was feeding 2 cups of TOW and 1/4 can of a cheaper dog food like Purina One or Alpo. My 52 pound Am Staff was doing well. A little scared of Diamond Products so I tried Merrick Grain Free. Because Merrick was higher in Calories I reduced to 1 1/2 cups per day plus 1/4 can of canned food.
Result:
Weight is perfect! She looks great! Energy abound! Coat is perfect! Smallest stools I have ever seen.
She is average to moderate in exercise. Best of all is 1 bag/25 pds is going to last around 2 months. I can update the exact time later. But I opened this bag on Dec. 18th. Today in Jan. 29th. I still have what looks to be at least a couple weeks left. Not bad at all for the money spent:)
The first bag I fed was the Buffalo. This bag is the Duck. Reading the label I liked the ingredients of these the best.
She really seems to love it (dances and licks the bowl) and I could use it for treats:) I probably don't need to add the can. I just do it to sweeten the deal:)
Dry Foods I have fed in past: Taste of the Wild, Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb, Apex, Eagle Pack, Blue Buffalo.
These are also in order of how the dog liked them and how she did on them overall. All were 2-2 1/2 cups
Am Staff/Pits seem to do well on Lamb or Buffalo as the main protein.
Never had one that thrived on Chicken protein that well.

I'd stay at less than 3 cups/day, depending on age and activity. I feed my 6+ year old 38 pound male (very active) about 1 1/2 to 2 cups/day, depending if I add anything such as meat, pumpkin or Grammy's Pot Pie (Merrick canned food-grain free). Weight is stable, lots of energy. Coat looks great!

Depends on the brand of food. Usually the feeding guidelines on the bag are a good place to satrt. If the dog still seems hungry and is not overwieght, feed him a little more. If he's chubby, a bit less.

Generally most dog food has a chart or table on the back of the kibble bag giving a recommended feeding schedule. Check yours to see and if not next time you are in the store check the back of the science diet bag they have a pretty good one.

The important thing to note is that feeding schedules and amounts are not just by the weight of a dog but they are also by the age. For instance, a dog under 6 months old will probably eat 2.5-3 cups of food per day, whereas a two year old dog may only have 2 cups per day and a senior dog may only get 1.5 or may get 2 but of a special formulated blend that pays specific attention to the fact that they are not as energetic as puppies and will not burn off as many calories.

Hope this helps! Happy pet shipping n loving!

I had the same problem with my lab and with his bad hips in the later years, it was imperative to get his weight down. I was able to take some weight off my swapping out some of his dry food with green beans; right out of the can. They're high in protein and low fat...and he loved them. If yours is a swimmer, get as much swimming in as possible for a good low impact exercise! Good luck!!

You are feeding her a high quality dog food, the only thing I would consider changing about her diet is looking for a grain free version or brand, also instead of leaving her to her own devices 2 exercise, I would try to incorporate long walks/jogs with her, or perhaps train her on a treadmill. 3x's a week should suffice. You didn't mention her age but I know with bigger dogs keeping their muscles strong and healthy is important for longevity. The avocados are a healthy source of fat and actually push the bad fat from the blood, keeping the arteries nice and clean. Have A Great DAY!

Our ingredients come from the USA. However, there are times when we can only get certain ingredients from other countries like but not limited to Japan, Canada, Germany (for example, a small amount of our vitamin and mineral premix). For the past few years our customers have shown great concerns with product coming from China.
We have gone through extreme procedures to be able to guarantee to our customers that not only do all of our ingredients not come from China, but they are not sourced from there either. We get our Lamb and Venison from Australia or New Zealand. All of our other meat, including fish comes from the US. We don’t use any hidden ingredients or by-products in our products. We are very proud to be able to say our Merrick Products are China Free.

Question

Why did the 40 pound bag turn into a 25 pound bag but the price stayed the same? I am very disappointed in Merrick and Petco!

I have been feeding Merrick Before Grain Buffalo for 4 years...the last 2 bags I bought were in new packaging and then I realized that they were also 15 pounds light...what is up with this...less dog food for the same price....not good.

Merrick Pet Care Grain Free Buffalo and The Before Grain Buffalo has always been produced in the 25lb bag as the largest size. Our Classic line which used to be the 5-Star Line has only produced in the 30lb bag as the largest size. The Whole Earth Farms larges size bag has always been 35lb bag. I do hope this clears up some confusion for you.

Question

Is there a "lean" formula?

I need my 60 pound female bulldog to loose weight. I was told to keep the fat % under 9%. I also have a siberian husky and I need for her to gain weight. Are there multiple formulas? I understand I would need to purchase two different types.

Question

I just received my bag of Grain agree Buffalo dog food to try. I was reading that some of your ingredients come from Japan. Because of the Fukishima

Nuclear radiation issues I am very concerned about feeding this food to my Rhodesian Ridgebacks. What do you as a company recommend to people who are buying this food and perhaps not knowing some of it is sourced from Japan? I am afraid of feeding my dogs a product with some of the ingredients coming from Japan.
