I have washed the outside brown cover many times and even the inside memory foam many times. Here is what I do: I unzip the main zipper and take out the large memory foam cushion. All the memory foam is in a zippered cushion. I use a large diaper safety pin, and I pen the zipper shut to the seam where there is thick material to attach the safety pin. (My first attempt at washing this memory foam cushion the zipper came unzipped, and I had thousands of pieces of memory foam all over the washing machine. Now, I safety pin the end of the zipper shut to the seam allowance during washing, so the zipper cannot become unzipped during washing and problem solved.) There are two memory foam pouches, and the other is the long cylinder pillow edge. I usually don't take out the long cylinder memory foam pillow. I just leave that in the brown covering and wash it in the brown covering. I also put that in the dryer. However, If you are going to use your own washing machine and not the commercial ones at the Laundromat, then I would take out the cylinder memory foam pillow as well. That way it doesn't over load your home washing machine. The brown cover alone can be easily washed and dried at home, or laid out to dry. I hope this helps.
