Question

Can I apply k-9 advantix three weeks after initial dosage? My dog still has fleas after supposed first application by the pound said they applied.

WE JUST ADOPTED HER 3 WEEKS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY APPLIED ADVANTIX FOR FLEA CONTROL... BUT SHE STILL HAS MASSIVE FLEAS. We don't want to overdose her, and asked our vet what we could do... he said contact advantix to find out...

The pound may have not given her the proper dose for her weight, but just for safety, I would get a really good flea and tick spray eg. Adams, then administer another proper dose of the drops when due. I would also bathe her in a really good dog shampoo. It might be wise to get a flea dust/spray for her area also. Good luck.

I do dog rescue and have dogs from 40 lbs up to 150. I wouldn't use the higher limit on your smaller dog, just because you risk almost poisoning them. You just never know when they will have a reaction, and even if they don't, by using too much, you also risk they're becoming adverse to using it at all in the future.

No, use the next size dosage down for your 45# dog. The risk of overdose is not worth using the larger size.

Question

Use of Advantix II after Pet Armor spray.

We have 2 std. poodles. Lived here for 3 years with no flea or tick problem. Yard is sprayed every two months. Suddenly we have a tremendous tick infestation. All of our neighbors have dogs. None have experienced the problem. Got Virbac collars from vet-no help. Had dogs groomed and bathed with tick and flea treatment shampoo and changed collars to Soresto-still finding multiple ticks on dogs and in their beds daily. Washing dog beds daily, had pest control spray yard and inside home again- no change. Sprayed dogs with Pet Armor two days ago-no change. May try Advantix II. How long an interval would be necessary after Pet Armor spray and would we need to take the Soresto Collars off for a time before applying Advantix II?

I do dog rescue and found that collars do absolutely nothing to control fleas and ticks except in a limited area, and they can cause irritation for your animals, so I recommend eliminating them completely.

I use K9 Advantix II on all five of my rescues and it works excellently so long as I keep them re-treated every 4 to 6 weeks during the flea/tick season, which here is from April through October.

You've inundated your dogs with a lot of chemicals, so you need to give them a break for a few days before doing anything else. Otherwise, you risk poisoning them.

Each time you treat your dog with K9 Advantix II, it will last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. If both your dogs are the same size, you can use a 4-pack to treat each of them twice. Unless you live in an extremely cold climate where there is a very short warm period, you will then need to get another pack later in the year.

I have 6 dogs and I buy 4 packs or 6 packs and even 12 packs depending on what my budget allows. As long as the dog meets the weight requirement, you can split the packs between the dogs.

The instructions specifically say that it must contact the skin, so I'm not sure what you're reading. The product is essentially taken into the system of the dog, which is why it kills fleas and ticks for an extended period. Getting it just on the fur won't do a lot.

Also, you can immediately pet your dog, except that where you have applied it will feel a bit oily for a few days, so I don't recommend petting them there.

K9 Advantix II comes in single packages for each specific-sized dog, and the results of it last for anywhere between a month and 6 weeks. Since flea and tick season extends over a long time period, depending upon where you are located, it's most cost-efficient to buy enough packages for each dog for the entire season. That's why it's packaged in 1, 2, 4 and 6 vials per weight size.

I do dog rescue, and when working with a dog right at the borderline, I usually use the dose for dogs at the lower limit. In your case that would be up to 20 pounds and see if that works - so only get one treatment. You can give too much to an animal and make it sick.

Remember, you can't just treat the animal, and not treat your dogs environment. Those fleas had laid eggs that are now hatching and looking for their blood meal. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Wash dogs bedding (and yours too, if you have a bed sleeper). Don't forget to vacuum the dogs sleeping area, too. Wash your dog with flea shampoo.

I believe you can go ahead and treat your dog with the Advantix II. The chewables work from the inside out, with completely different medicine. Although they have an added ingredient to take care of fleas, their main use is for treatment and prevention of worms.

Didn't anybody else catch this? Advantage and K9 Advantix are two completely different flea topicals. Make sure you know which one is being talked about. K9 Advantix is for dogs ONLY, and the precautions about keeping the treated dogs separated from the cat til the treatment is dry, is wise. Unless you have a cat that licks your dogs, kitty should be okay. Advantage, however, can safely be used for both cats and dogs. But as wiith all topicals, keep the treated animal from licking the stuff off themselves. Some animals are clean freaks, and the feel of the dampness bothers them. Once it is dry, it usually isn't an issue. Good on the outside, bad for the insides.

Yes , it will have a very negative effect on your cat. There are products specifically for cats. You should even let the K9 Advantage dry on the dog before you allow your cat around it.

if your dog weighs 65lbs, and a package says 55lbs and over, or 55 lbs +, that would be the obvious choice even if your dog weighs 300 lbs.
advantix 2 is the best product on the market for any dog. if the medication doesnt work, the owner didnt apply it correctly, or washed the medication off soon after by shampooing the same area of the neck where the medication was applied.

the problem probably isnt the dosage if you are using the reccomended amount. in your case the best thing to do is ask your vet! your dog might simply have an allergic reaction to this particular product even though it is the best treatemnt for MOST dogs.
a sign that the dosage is too much is vomiting, lethargy, excessive thirst, tremors, and death.
always follow the instructions for dosage amounts. if there are ANY reactions, consult a veterinarian.

you never want to combine medications on your dog. a verterinarian will tell you that doing so is the main cause for most pet emergencies and deaths. wash your pet with a pet shampoo, but still wait until the next month before using another flea treatment. fleas can literally kill your pet by drinking all of it's blood, but using more than the recommended dose of any flea medication can also kill them. bathe them a few times with a flea shampoo to get rid of fleas until a month has passed, THEN you can switch brands, but be careful not to use the cheaper brands sold at grocery stores; they are less expensive but they are also very dangerous. trust the brands your designated petstores have chosen to sell
