Yes I just got the 700 and it comes with everything. The instructions say that you need to put in an O ring at some point, but it's already in the filter. Just prime it well before you turn it on.

Personally, depending on fish type, I would use 2 50's. That way you have water flow on two sides of the aquarium. Food for thought: If there is a chance that you may move up to a 75gal or 100gal tank in the future I would get 2 70's. You can always adjust the water flow if the 70's are too powerful for your 55gal tank or fish type.

the Biggest Casccade is only 265 and hour flow rate and general rule especially with aquarium you want to move your water 10 times an hour so you would need to filter 550 and hour so you will need more than one filter. You could use the Rena XP2 or 3 along with the cascade 1000 or cascade 700 I currently have a 65 gallon Reef and use the Rena XP2 and the Cascade 700 wiht a Reef Octopus BH-1000 protien skimmer puuting my water flow at 735 GPH. Hope this Helps

I just bought the new Penn Plax Cascade 1000 canister filter. How should I set up my three trays from the bottom up?

Bottom tray should have floss and carbon, next tray should have floss and sponge or carbon/zeolite mix and last tray would have sponge/tubes mix. Every tank is unique. You have to adjust for your application. What is your biological loading?

answer 2
The canister filters from the bottom up, put the carbon on the bottom ....I believe the course sponge should be under the carbon in the tray. I am not sure about the rest, but I would go with media last and use floss in between..floss can be changed during monthly maintenance or perhaps replaced with a different sponge. Hope this helps.

The filter assembly is bottom to top. The water comes in the bottom first and moves to the top. I changed the filter packs to include a zeolite and carbon mix instead of the straight carbon pack.

answer 2
Your filter probably came with floss carbon and a grey sponge. Throw the floss in the trash and go buy another grey sponge and ceramic rings. Put one grey sponge and carbon on top of that in the bottom tray. Then put the second sponge and ceramic rings in the top tray. Never rinse the rings in tap water only tank water.Keeps benifecial Bacteria alive! I would do the same with the sponges... Hope this helps you.You can Google a ton of info on Canister filters.

Most likely you will have to contact Penn Plax directly. It's funny you can buy these and other filters at the stores but you can't ever buy replacement parts.

If you can't find support from your local store try a building supplier. Take a piece of the tubing/hose to them and ask for a similar replacement.

No, only water is to be there. You will know it is working! Also when water comes out of the output it is working. Check to see if you connected the hoses correctly or if there is a leak.
