You should be careful of doing that. The filter might be too strong for the tank and blow water all over the place like a fire hose. Also, the glass might not be thick enough to handle such a massive filter. In addition, it will likely void the warranty on your lawn mower.

yes it can,, i run more than double what is recommended,, it cant hurt,, it keeps it crystal clear,,
i have 2 emperor 400 on my 75 gal which is enough for 180 gal tank and running 3- emperor 400 on my 125 gal tank wich is enough for 270 gal tank

Absolutely. I run a Penguin 350 (the 70-gallon one) and a Tetra Whisper 60 on my 55 gallon (I have goldfish, so I need the extra filtration).
One issue to be aware of is if you are using the standard hoods that come with most 55-gallon tanks, you may need to modify the hood with a hacksaw to make the Penguin filter fit, but it's really very easy to do and takes just a minute of time.

Absolutely. Unless.... you have fish who won't appreciate as much current as that will provide. I'm currently running a 200 on a 10 gallon tank and two 350's (what you have) on a 75.
