Can a Halti be used with a Flexi?

Our 55lb Australian Shepherd/German Shepherd mix is 3 years old. He is a high energy dog!

2x he has gotten free from his leash. The leash snap attaching leash to collar failed in a busy intersection. His trainer told us IF he ever got loose, not to chase him but call his name and start running in the opposite direction. It worked and saved him. He has had basic obedience but obviously needs, and will get, more training.

After that experience, SAFETY for our dog is our first concern. What do you think would be best for a high energy dog walked in a suburban area? Our trainer suggested a martingale. Wish we could get a leash that had 2 attachments in case one failed, then we'd know he wouldn't get free.

He is a pound puppy rescue and is the best dog we have ever had. We have a bumper sticker on our car with a paw print and it says, "Who rescued who?" :-)
