Question

18" bubble bar, only half has bubbles!

Soaked in tank for over an hour. Have an airpump 40. So what's the problem? Do I need to get a bigger air pump?

because these bars are cheaply made...some work great and others do not

Depends... check your aeration tube for possible holes or puncture damages, as this will cause a low air flow through your bubble bar or wand. Another possibility could be that your pump isn't strong enough. Most Aeration pumps will state for which application they are intended for. Aeration or air pumps that say 60 gallons will put out enough for a 60 gallon tank. If your tank is over 40 gallons then you will need to try to acquire a pump more suitable for your tank. If I'm not mistaking fish need a PH level of 7. Research your fish and their needs and test the water if possible and make adjustments if necessary. Education and Research before buying or receiving any animal will save you from unnecessary expenses in the long run. I hope this helps...

I have two petco 14" bubble bars and I have them connected in my tank but the bubbles are only going across one bubble bar, I have Tetra Whisper 400.

Assuming they're attached in parallel and not end to end, there's a lot of variation in these. Some work fine, some don't. I've had many of them and they're all different; some have had even flow, some no flow. If they are end to end, however, try attaching each to a tee and see what happens.

get a hose splitter. Don't connect them end to end, but split them as close to the pump as possible.
