I feed my two 60 pound dogs a lot of treats and bones each month. I heard all the bad news about raw hide, so mostly stopped using that. Now I am concerned about real bones. They dont like pork and it can splinter too easily. When I give them 6 to 8 inch femur bones they are busy with them for an hour or so before the center part (marrow--treat) is no longer accessible. I give them the 2.5" wide and 12" long smoked beef rib bones which they eventually will totally chew up. I'm now concerned that even these bones pose a threat via splinters. I spend $300 a month trying to buy the best possible bones, toys or treats for them. They love the chicken jerky (from China) which recently got so much bad press for having poisoned some dogs. What can I (all of us) give them that is safe, enjoyable and perhaps not as ridiculously expense as everything in all pet stores seems to be getting?
